Hello, I'm Dr. Mike Chirano from The Doctor Lawyer Team. If you've read our website, you know that I'm a board-certified neurosurgeon and a licensed attorney. I want to talk to you about a specific type of personal injury case, and that's medical malpractice. Something that, because of my credentials, I'm able to evaluate and give advice to you fairly quickly.
We practice in Connecticut. So in Connecticut, we can take any, any, type of medical malpractice case, but because we're both veterans, we focus a lot of our practice on cases against VA and the federal government in military hospitals. We take those cases under what's called the Federal Tort Claims Act. It's like any medical malpractice case, but it's done through his a different type of scheme that's prescribed by the government. I'd like to say that, although we take cases against the VA, we're both veterans and both of us get our care at the VA. But as any vet knows, when the government's in charge, the ball can get dropped. And when the ball gets dropped, if it causes you harm, and it's due to negligence of your being cared for at the VA or in the military hospital, you deserve compensation from the government.
Veterans deserve that the hospitals were sent to give us the same standard of care that anyone else would get, and they should be held accountable. It should be noted that not all cases you can collect on from care at the VA, our medical malpractice cases, some are called what's in what are what's called an 1151 claim. In that case, even if there's no negligence, if a very untoward or what's called unforeseen complication, gives you a lot of damage. You have a venue to collect under that. I actually review these types of claims for the VA as a doctor and I'm well aware of of how to navigate one of these types of claims. You just call us and we'll explain this to you in detail. What are types of medical malpractice claims? There are many we focus on birth injuries, which can cause cerebral palsy. misdiagnosis of cancer misdiagnosis of heart attacks, any type of misdiagnosis or failure to provide a standard that a specialist within that field would be held accountable to surgical errors. If they're not just a simple error, but due to negligence, those are all medical malpractice claims. Again, because with the question, I'll be able to figure it out fairly quickly. Whether or not there's a claim there and what investigation needs to be done.
So I hope this video helps you understand us better and the types of things that we can do for you whether or not this is related to our veteran and call us at the number below if you have any needs.
