Greetings. I'm attorney Paul McConnell from The Doctor Lawyer Team. I want to talk to you briefly about UIM, that is underinsured motorist coverage.
What do you do if you get in an accident and the other side doesn't have any insurance coverage or they have a low amount of coverage? That's when UIM comes into play. It's important that you have UIM on your policy, which supplements what the other side has or doesn't have. It's important to have this and confer with respect to putting your life back together. With respect to lost wages, with respect to medical bills, you want to ensure that you have adequate insurance to protect you, and that's where UIM comes into play. For example, if you have an UIM add on your policy and it gives you an additional $50,000 in coverage, well then you can feel safe or protected in the event you get in an accident and in the other side doesn't have any coverage or protection at all, or it supplements what they have if they only have 25 or even if they have $50,000 but you have medical bills or lost wages that are that are significant in your case.
So again, talk to your insurance agent, whoever it is that helps you get car insurance, and ensure that you have a UIM add-on on your policy to protect you.
